Tired of just dreaming of how beautiful your smile can be? You could be a candidate for cosmetic teeth veneers! Imagine a picture-perfect smile free of chips, stains, gaps, and other flaws that make your smile less pleasing. That’s the transformative power of dental veneers. Naturally, you have questions about this amazing cosmetic dental treatment. Drs. Ben Whiting and Scott Stauffer from Whiting Dental in Mesa, Arizona, provide the answers you need here!
Veneers are thin cosmetic coverings made from tooth-colored composite resin or porcelain. They are custom-made to resemble your natural teeth and bonded over your tooth surface to cover imperfections you find displeasing. By placing veneers on your teeth, Drs. Whiting and Stauffer can transform the appearance of your smile.
Veneers are placed on existing teeth to correct problems with:
Veneers can correct multiple problems simultaneously to give your smile a stunning appearance in one dental treatment!
Porcelain veneers take several dental visits to complete. On your first visit, Dr. Whiting or Dr. Stauffer will examine your teeth and discuss the problems you want to fix to see if veneers can correct these issues. If so, we’ll plan your treatment and prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel where the veneers will be placed. Then, we’ll take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab where custom veneers will be created for your smile. We will temporarily apply veneers to your teeth to safeguard them for the time being. When your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll come in for a second appointment to have them permanently attached to your teeth, completing your treatment.
With good oral care, Porcelain veneers are strong and enduring, lasting up to 15 years or longer. Composite veneers are esthetically pleasing but less durable, lasting, on average, seven to 10 years. Good oral hygiene habits and regularly seeing your Mesa, AZ, dentist for dental cleanings will help keep your veneers in good condition. Veneers will also last longer if you avoid hard foods, stop chewing on ice, and use a night guard if you habitually grind your teeth.
No, the veneer process is virtually painless. After receiving veneers, your teeth may be slightly sensitive for a few days, but this will pass. If you feel discomfort during the veneer process, you can let Dr. Whiting or Dr. Stauffer know, and we can use a mild anesthetic to complete your treatment.
